Join emerging leaders, budding artists and inspirational youth as they discuss “Maintaining Culture in the Global Age”. Does MTV influence your style? Has the internet brought you closer to Indigenous youth around the world? Has BEBO or Myspace affected your community relations?

Today’s youth have grown up in a media saturated society. From Botswana to Bangladesh, we are watching the same American programming. Through the World Wide Web we are all digital neighbors and grass roots initiatives rely on technology to survive.  But what does this mean for cultural diversity? Does the mass media promote a mono-cultural norm? Or has technological advancement made way for an increase in independent, culturally diverse media?

Victorian Aboriginal Community Services Ltd (VACSAL) is partnering with the Victorian Indigenous Youth Advisory Council to present a day of discussion, debate and workshops.

There will be Aboriginal hip hop performers, dancers, a didgeridoo player, a painter, a curator and many more rising stars. There will be tennis legend Evonne Goolagong Cawley, and a surprise international guest speaker. And all participants will have the opportunity to work shop a performance for the Closing Ceremony.
